The Ninth World Bestiary 3 brings over 150 new, lavishly illustrated Ninth World creatures and characters to life. Innovative features such as size comparison diagrams, one-creature-per-page layout, and heavy cross-referencing make this book a joy to use, whether at the game table or while prepping your adventures. And it includes encounter tables featuring creatures from the Numenera Discovery and Numenera Destiny core books, plus all three Ninth World Bestiaries, making it easy to look up creatures from every major source.

The Ninth World Bestiary 3 comes with double-sided poster map featuring a creature comparison diagram on one side, and the stunning cover art on the other.

Monster Of The Week

My introduction to the monster of the week trope happened when I was just a little kid. I was obsessed with the Goosebumps books and television show. Each episode/book had a new cool monster that captured my imagination. After I had read or watched each one, I would rush to my dad and tell him all about it (and he would always listen and humor me). Then, as I got older, my dad introduced me to the X-Files and my fandom for the monster of the week format took off. Shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural kept me coming back for more.

If you are like me and enjoy the kind of one-and-done story format, then Monster of the Week is going to be the type of role playing game that you can really get into. In Monster of the Week, you and a group of your friends are Monster Hunters tasked with taking down the…well, the monster of the week. This game provides you with a plethora of character types for you to use when creating your character. Are you the take charge and lead type? Why don’t you try playing as The Chosen One or The Professional? You want to have a little mystery behind your character? No problem, The Monstrous or The Spell-slinger may fit you well.

Monster of the Week is incredibly fun for anyone into role playing games, but what makes it really great is that the system is so easy to learn that even people who haven’t ever played an RPG can pick it up quickly. Actions are based on rolling a six sided die and adding bonuses. For example, let’s say you are a player in the woods and you choose to search for clues. You roll two six-sided dice (or 2 D6) and add a bonus, if you roll extremely well (10 or higher)  then congratulations, you have done what you were trying to do. If you roll okay (7-9) you get to do what you were trying to do, however the Game Master gets to mess with you a little bit. If you completely miss on your roll (6 or fewer) something not so great can happen to your character.

This system is also fantastic for first time Game Masters. The core book comes with two ready-to-play mysteries and provides example monsters (ghouls, vampires, trolls) to help you out when you are ready to create your own adventures. It also provides extra tools to help you further flesh out your mysteries and monsters as well.

Monster of the Week is a narrative driven story game so the Game Master and the Monster Hunters are creating the story together. So, if that sounds like fun to you, open your spell book and grab that baseball bat. It’s time to take these monster’s down!

Miskatonic University: The Restricted Collection

The game is a quest, an extremely dangerous quest. Dr. Henry Armitage, Chief Librarian, needs you to search the perilous Restricted Collection for fragments of lore from among the grimoires to recover pieces of a particular sigil.

Miskatonic University: The Restricted Collection lasts five rounds, and each round continues until no one is left in the library, each player having left voluntarily or having been expelled. Basic play consists of taking turns to select a library card and placing these cards face up on your player mats. Library cards come in three types: sigil pieces, grimoire fragments, and graduate students. In more detail:

  • Sigil pieces: Three pieces make a set and earn a lore card. Picking up a duplicate leads to expulsion unless you can use your defenses.
  • Grimoire fragments: Three pieces make a set and earn a lore card. Picking up a duplicate leads to expulsion unless you can use your defenses.
  • Graduate students: Collection four means you can re-use one of your defense cards.

Players have a chance to win black or red sanity cards, which increase your score. The game ends when the final fifth round is played. You then add up all the score cards you have received and the player with the highest score wins!

Inuit: the Snow Folk

As aurora borealis fills the night sky with fantastical light, and the eyes of those who came before look upon you, it has fallen on you to lead your village to power and prosperity. Now is the time to grow in numbers and strength, to build, to hunt, to look to the spirits of the white wilderness, and to prove yourself the greatest leader of the Snow Folk.

Inuit: The Snow Folk is a card-based strategy game of drafting and tableau building for 2-4 players.

On your turn:
1. Draw cards from the common deck and place them face up on the table.
2. Choose one type of card to draft into your village.
3. The number of cards you draft is based on the number of Inuit of a given occupation:
– Elders expand your village.
– Shamans call upon powerful Spirits and perform mysterious Rites.
– Warriors bring you the weapons of those they conquer.
– Hunters provide precious game: seals, orcas, and polar bears.
– Scouts allow you to choose from more cards each turn.

Inuit: The Snow Folk is a creative reimplementation of Natives, a 2017 release, updated with new lavish art and adding 2 new modular expansions: The Spirit of the Great White and Rising Sun.

At first glance, several of the player cards featured in For the Greater Good may look  familiar. In The Secret Name, the Arkham Horror LCG broke the boundary between player factions by introducing player cards like that belonged to multiple classes. Now, as your investigators continue to gain experience from their research into Arkham’s secret history, you will have the chance to upgrade these cards into more powerful versions that fit into classic, single-class categories. Each version of these upgraded cards feature distinct art pieces and abilities that play into the core focuses of their classes, growing with your investigators as their search for answers continue.

Invisible Sun RPG: Book M

Even its name is a secret.

Some say it comes from the Sodality of Vryn, which identifies thirteen currents of magic and gives each a letter designation—M is the 13th and most powerful. Others say the title refers to the original writer of the book, while still others believe it stands for mystery, or—perhaps most simply and obviously—magic.

Whatever the source of its name, Book M is one of the rarest and most sought-after grimoires. It’s whispered to contain otherwise unknown spells, incantations, rituals, charms, hexes, and more. Plus potions, amulets, bezoars, spiritstones, and madstones, as well as other physical ephemera. Within its pages a vislae might even discover artifacts of great power.

New forte. New long-form magic. New character and house secrets. And more guidelines and advice for making magic even easier—and more magical.

Book M contains:

  • The 120-page hardcover Book M itself, with new forte, long-form magic, and character and house secrets. And more guidelines and advice for making magic even easier—and more magical.
  • 200 new cards for spells, incantations, ephemera, and objects of power.
  • All within an elegant and sturdy slipcase. It holds Book M with room for the forthcoming Invisible Sun supplements Secrets of Silent Streets, Teratology, and The Threshold.

Invisible Sun RPG: Teratology

It cost many lives—even many souls—to bring you this book.

When asked how many beings live in the Actuality, the famed trailblazer Taramoc Eslin answered with characteristic aplomb: “All of them.” No book could possibly catalog every creature everywhere, but her masterwork is the most comprehensive volume to date; the greatest resource on the creatures of the Actuality ever attempted by any vislae. Not just another bestiary, but the bestiary. The Teratology.

Inside the cover of this 192-page volume, wise vislae, you will find new insights into the realms beneath each sun, including newly discovered (or at least newly chronicled) locations. And you’ll find hundreds of creatures, spirits, and other entities that inhabit those realms, painstakingly researched and described. You will even meet important and distinctive personalities who walk the Path of Suns.

Any vislae venturing from Indigo will find this tome an indispensible resource. Goetics in particular will prize its trove of daringly-acquired insights into summonable beings. And even those who remain within Satyrine will discover many creatures they had not even imagined could be found so close.

Your games of Journeys in Middle-earth may see you roaming Middle-earth on the journey map, employing double-sided tiles to build out a larger region for your adventure to take place.
